The tool best suited to cleaning up this type of image, would be the magnetic lasso tool
Keep jumping between layers selecting different areas and deleting them until you have removed all the old background
Go to menu / edit / free transform

Rotate image until it can be aligned easily.
Use the move tool from the tool palette to close up the gap.

Once you have aligned the images correctly

go to the layer palette and turn of the visibility on layer 1 then go to layers / merge visible

This will merge your layers

Zoom in and select an area close to a gap. Select the clone tool from the tools palette, press alt then click your mouse and start painting over the yellow area .
Do the same for the staple marks on the banner
